In the News

IDEA Fitness Journal’s September issue included a large feature article on Golf-Specific Pilates noting that in the United States alone, more than 26 million people play the sport on a regular basis.

According to the National Gold Foundation, the groups with the largest growth in participation between 2002 and 2003 were women and children. “With its focus on core strength, flexibility, stability and balance, Pilates can be a great tool for conditioning your clients.”

Attention Certified Instructors: Please remember you have only three (3) months left to accumulate the required 0.6 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) for 2006.

Spotlight FAQ: Can I take other courses or workshops to gain CECs?

A: With the exception of successfully petitioned exercise science or anatomy-based workshops or courses (maximum 0.2 credits), all CECs must be fulfilled by attending STOTT PILATES workshops. This ensures that you build on your original STOTT PILATES training and remain up-to-date with any enhancements.

STARTING POSITION

1 SEATED on mat, tall and lengthened, with legs crossed (sit on a pillow, large book or chair to sit up as straight as possible). Flex-Band exerciser around back. Hands holding ends of band, elbows bent at sides.


EXERCISE

To prepare, INHALE...


2 EXHALE Tighten abdominal muscles and reach arms out to sides. Keep torso stable and palms facing up.


3 INHALE Keeping torso stable, bend arms to return to starting position.


Complete 8-10 repetitions

1 starting position. inhale to prepare, then...

2 exhale. reach arms out

3 inhale. return to starting position
