Roll Up...... |
Be certain to warm up before exercising. Read these important cautions
|
STARTING POSITION
Lie on your back, pelvis and spine neutral. Extend legs straight along mat, legs together and feet flexed. Hold pole in hands, reaching arms overhead. Maintain scapular stabilization.
EXERCISE
INHALE slide scapulae down back to stabilize as arms reach toward ceiling.
EXHALE lengthen back of neck, continue to stabilize scapulae and initiate from head, sequentially flexing spine off mat, one vertebra at a time (passing through imprint), until pelvis is vertical, spine flexed, arms reaching parallel to floor, top of head toward fingers.
INHALE maintain spinal flexion and initiate with abdominals and roll ASIS away from front of femurs.
EXHALE continue to roll spine through flexion, one vertebra at a time onto mat (passing through imprint). Allow pelvis to return to neutral once lower thoracic reaches mat. Once head is on mat, stabilize torso in neutral and maintain scapular stability as arms return overhead.
Complete 5-8 repetitions.
FOCUS
Articulate pelvis away from legs as roll down begins, giving sense of opening front of hip joint
Articulate sequentially so each vertebra peels off mat separately during roll up and makes contact separately during roll down
stabilize scapulae through roll up and roll down
roll pelvis only up to vertical, not further forward of sit-bones
maintain flexion through spine and abdominal connection once pelvis reaches vertical to avoid collapsing over legs
reach heels away from torso to help anchor legs
emphasize rolling through imprint
