Exercise of the Month


Scissors

Be certain to warm up before exercising. Read these important cautions

STARTING POSITION

Lie on back with upper body flexed off the mat, imprinted position. Extend legs toward ceiling, thighs pressed together and parallel, toes pointed. Hands reaching toward ankles, scapulae stabilized.

EXERCISE

INHALE
to prepare, then...

EXHALE reach one leg into extension at hip, bringing other leg into flexion at hip and pulsing twice with breath. Reach hands toward ankle of flexed leg.

INHALE start to switch legs by reaching them to ceiling so they pass each other in mid-air

EXHALE reach opposite leg into extension at hip, other leg into flexion, pulsing twice with breath.

INHALE start to switch legs by reaching them to ceiling so they pass each other in mid-air.

Complete 8-10 repetitions

TO FINISH

INHALE
bring legs together and reach toward ceiling.

EXHALE return upper body to mat.

FOCUS

ensure engagement of transversus abdominis
throughout exercise to keep abdominals flat

avoid lateral tilting or rotation of pelvis

maintain feeling of reaching legs further through
pulse rather than ballistic movement.
