Open Leg Rocker

STARTING POSITION
Balance in a seated position, with front of hips rolled away from legs to bring weight back of sit-bones. Lower back slightly curved, upper back lengthened. Legs straight in air, apart in V-position just wider than shoulder-distance apart, toes gently pointed. Hands gently holding ankles, shoulders stable, with collarbone wide. Eye-focus toward feet.

EXERCISE
INHALE curve the lower back and allow the upper spine to curve, creating a C shape with the spine; maintain this shape and roll backward, no further than between the shoulder blades.

EXHALE roll forward, maintain C-curve with weight back of sit-bones; slide shoulder blades gently down back and lengthen the upper spine, maintaining the lower back in a slightly curved position, and return to starting position. Legs and torso create V shape.

Complete 8-10 repetitions

FOCUS
Ensure engagement of abdominals, particularly the deep stabilizing transversus abdominis throughout movement.
Roll only as far as shoulder blades, not onto the neck.
Initiate roll back by moving pelvis away from legs, increasing spinal curve.
Maintain slight curve through lower back to maintain control when balancing in V-position.
Maintain stability of shoulder blades.
Roll through center of spine.
