In the News

The July issue of Flare magazine features “High/Low impact: Spend a little or break the bank to buff your bod.” The “high impact” exercise option recommended is one-on-one pilates instruction, particularly with highly qualified STOTT PILATES Certified Instructors. visit the Flare website.

Elle Quebec’s July issue includes a Health Guide (Guide Santé), featuring Studio Praxis, a STOTT PILATES Licensed Certification Center in Montreal. The feature includes the benefits and differences of the STOTT PILATES method vs. traditional pilates.


June’s Health ’n Vitality magazine includes Moira’s “Pilates tips: Pilates for Yoga.” Moira advises that practicing pilates regularly can be beneficial to one’s yoga practice, especially to body awareness, increased strength and control, and conscious breathing.

The July issue of Chatelaine magazine features the article “Flatten your belly in 10 minutes.” Colleen Craig, a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor contributed to the article.


A study showing the benefits of yoga and pilates was presented in June at the 52nd annual American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) meeting in Nashville, Tenn. The study followed 22 people over a 12-week period and reviewed the benefits of pilates-based mat exercises. At the end, most participants noticed a decrease in lower back pain. The study’s authors plan to do further studies on the benefits of pilates.

The July/August issue of Pilates Style magazine features “Canadian Adaptation: Moira Merrithew discusses the evolution of the STOTT PILATES method.”

Exercise of the Month

Leg Circles with Flex-Band

Be certain to warm up before exercising.
Read these important cautions

STARTING POSITION
Lying on back on a mat. Spine in a neutral position, neither arched nor flat. One foot lifted off mat with Flex-Band exerciser wrapped around back of thigh and crossed in front. Hands holding ends of band, arms out to side..

EXERCISE

INHALE
Begin to circle leg out to side and away from body, keeping torso still.

EXHALE Continue to circle leg across midline and up towards body, keeping torso still.

Circle leg 5 times in one direction. Repeat 5 times in opposite direction. Repeat entire sequence with other leg.
