STOTT PILATES is recognized by the American Council on Exercise, Can-Fit-Pro, the College of Massage Therapy of Ontario as a continuing education provider.
WORKSHOPS

STOTT PILATES introductory and continuing education workshops are a great way to expand your STOTT PILATES knowledge. Workshops are available at the STOTT PILATES CERTIFICATION CENTER nearest you. Most workshops qualify for continuing education credits from STOTT PILATES and other recognized organizations.

Each workshop covers the relevant STOTT PILATES repertoire with an emphasis on exercise goals and on applying the STOTT PILATES basic principles of alignment and breath.

Depending on the length of the workshop you choose (from 1.5 to 6 hours), increasingly more material is covered and a greater emphasis is placed on exercise modifications, strategies for designing effective programs and development of cueing, eye trainingand correcting skills.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:

ESSENTIAL MATWORK covers select STOTT PILATES Essential level exercises with an emphasis on exercise goals, movement and breath patterns and proper alignment.

ESSENTIAL TO INTERMEDIATE MATWORK explains how to progress from the STOTT PILATES essential level Matwork repertoire to more complex and coordinated intermediate level exercises. Exercise intensity is increased, challenging strength, flexibility and coordination.

INTENSIFYING ESSENTIAL MATWORK will help you challenge clients safely by intensifying selected STOTT PILATES Matwork exercises and increasing pace without sacrificing control and quality.

MAT-PLUS™ demonstrates how to incorporate the Arc or Small Barrel, Fitness Circle® resistance ring and the Flex-Band® exerciser into STOTT PILATES Matwork classes to help support and modify movements, and to maximize challenge and variety.

FITNESS CIRCLE® WORKSHOP shows you how to incorporate resistance and variety into your Matwork routine using the sprung steel resistance of the STOTT PILATES Fitness Circle resistance ring.

FITNESS CIRCLE CHALLENGE takes the Fitness Circle workout up a notch with more challenging STOTT PILATES Matwork exercises. Adding resistance and focus to both upper and lower body moves, this level two routine will challenge your strength, flexibility and core stability.

INTRO TO FITNESS CIRCLE & FLEX-BAND® shows you how to intensify STOTT PILATES Matwork exercises and add variety to your pilates programming using the Fitness Circle resistance ring and Flex-Band exerciser.

SCULPT & TONE This level one Flex-Band workout allows you to integrate the Flex-Band exerciser into your routine. Modify Matwork exercises and simulate spring resistance in Reformer-based exercises to add diversity and challenge.

TOTAL BODY SCULPTING Flex-Band, Level 2 Step up to level two of the Flex-Band workouts. Increase core and peripheral strength by incorporating the Flex-Band exerciser into a STOTT PILATES Matwork routine.

ULTIMATE BODY SCULPTING Flex-Band, Level 3 Simulate spring resistance with these Reformer-style exercises using the Flex-Band exerciser. Add variety, intensity and fun using these challenging Flex-Band exercises in a level three STOTT PILATES workout.

ULTIMATE BACK CARE In keeping with current research, this session focuses on modifying the STOTT PILATES Matwork for lower back problems. Major focus is placed on strengthening the deep abdominals, shoulder girdle muscles and deep support muscles of the lumbar spine to alleviate and prevent lower back pain.

PRE-NATAL WORKSHOP outlines STOTT PILATES exercise variations for women in their second trimester of pregnancy and considerations for those in first and third trimesters, taking into account the many changes that happen to the body during pregnancy. Shorter presentations incorporate the Spine Supporter and Flex-Band, longer workshops can also include Arc Barrel, Stability Ball and Stability Chair.

CORE BALANCE Stability Ball, Level 1 Learn to use the dynamic nature of the ball to challenge stabilization during mat-based exercises in this level one workout.

DYNAMIC BALANCE Stability Ball, Level 2 This level two workshop simulates STOTT PILATES reformer exercises using the Stability Ball, placing major emphasis on balance and proprioception.

3-D BALANCE Stability Ball, Level 3 increases the challenge and benefit of STOTT PILATES Matwork by modeling Stability Ball exercises on the Intermediate Matwork repertoire. This level three workout increases in difficulty by providing additional proprioceptive challenge and prompting faster stabilization.

SUPERIOR BALANCE Stability Ball, Level 4 By simulating exercises from the STOTT PILATES Intermediate Reformer repertoire on the Stability Ball, you can increase challenge. The Superior Balance workout is the highest level of difficulty in the Stability Ball series. (Formerly called Ultimate Balance)

FOAM ROLLER Learn a variety of STOTT PILATES exercises incorporating a foam roller to cue alignment while challenging core strength, peripheral strength and balance.

ESSENTIAL BOSU® PILATES
Flat on one side and domed on the other, the unstable nature of the BOSU makes it an ideal tool for establishing and reinforcing balance, stability and proprioception while you gain core strength. The unique design of the BOSU Trainer allows STOTT PILATES exercises to be done in supine, prone, sitting, kneeling, lunging and standing positions.

INTERMEDIATE BOSU® PILATES
takes you through intermediate level STOTT PILATES exercises for the “Both Sides Up” BOSU Balance Trainer, a versatile demi-ball that effectively targets and conditions the core. This effective balance and proprioception training can enhance strength, flexibility, agility, coordination and muscular endurance.

ARC BARREL shows you how to enhance STOTT PILATES Matwork using the Arc or Small Barrel to support the spine in various positions, target core and peripheral muscles and adapt exercises to specific body types thereby improving flexibility and torso stability.

STABILITY CHAIR teaches you how to use the highly versatile STOTT PILATES Split-Pedal Stability Chair to perform simple and more complex movements integrating bilateral and unilateral movement with core stability. The Chair also offers the opportunity to do functional exercises in a variety of positions.

ESSENTIAL REFORMER Introduces participants to the STOTT PILATES Reformer and a select number of Essential level repertoire for personal or small group training. Emphasis is on the goals, biomechanics and correct alignment of the exercises, and the benefits of working with this type of equipment.

INTENSIFYING ESSENTIAL REFORMER Challenge clients with maximum safety and effectiveness by taking the STOTT PILATES Essential Reformer to a higher level of intensity. Add variety, increase the pace, challenge cardiovascular and muscular endurance to keep clients continually motivated and inspired.

ESSENTIAL TO INTERMEDIATE REFORMER Learn how to progress from the Essential level Reformer repertoire to more complex and coordinated intermediate level exercises. Practice verbal cueing, correction techniques and visual skills. Prerequisite: STOTT PILATES Essential Reformer Workshop AND previous experience teaching or studying pilates Reformer exercises.

INTERMEDIATE REFORMER
reviews select Intermediate level exercises that can challenge strength, control, balance and flexibility for personal training clients or group exercise classes. Prerequisite: STOTT PILATES Essential Reformer Workshop AND extensive experience teaching or studying pilates Reformer exercises.

ESSENTIAL CADILLAC introduces you to the fundamental strength, flexibility, rehab and high performance capabilities of the STOTT PILATES Cadillac/Trapeze Table and discusses programming options and exercise progressions.

STOTT PILATES CIRCUIT shows you how to develop circuit training programs to improve balance, strength, flexibility and coordination using the Arc/Small Barrel, Reformer, Cadillac and Chair. A version of this workout may also be done using the Reformer and Chair only.

ARMCHAIR PILATES PLUS adapts the STOTT PILATES principles and exercises to the client with restricted mobility who is better suited working out in a seated position. A variety of exercises will be discussed, demonstrated and experienced that work both the core and peripheral muscle groups while seated using the Flex-Band exerciser.

PILATES FOR PROFIT (Lecture)
Pilates can be a terrific profit center and retention tool for you club, provided that you introduce it properly. The presentation will review hiring the right trainer, the pricing dilemma, a quick orientation to the equipment needed, and some marketing and promotion tips for both internal and external marketing. (Does not qualify for ACE CECs)

PILATES FOR PERSONAL TRAINERS (Lecture) This session will focus on the key issues for facility owners when implementing pilates programming for profitability, as well as appeal to personal trainers looking to enhance their personal training repertoire, incorporate new training techniques, boost fee opportunities and increase client satisfaction.(Does not qualify for ACE CECs)

TONING BALL formerly The Weighted Ball Workout This workshop incorporates the use of soft, hand-held, weighted Toning Balls while
interactively teaching participants select exercises from the STOTT PILATES Essential Matwork repertoire. The use of Toning Balls will not only target the rotator cuff, but increase awareness and strength of the entire upper quadrant, as well as core musculature.

FUNCTIONAL FITNESS FOR GOLF / MATWORK This workshop breaks down the essential components of the golf swing to give fitness instructors a better understanding of the conditioning requirements of golfers. A series of STOTT PILATES Matwork exercises incorporates small equipment including a mat, the Fitness Circle resistance ring, Flex-Band exerciser, and small, hand-held, weighted toning balls.

FUNCTIONAL FITNESS FOR GOLF / REFORMER This workshop is designed to give fitness instructors a better understanding of the conditioning requirements of golfers by breaking down the essential components of the golf swing. A series of modified STOTT PILATES Reformer exercises will be presented.

FUNCTIONAL FITNESS FOR RACQUET SPORTS, MATWORK This workshop is designed to give fitness instructors a better understanding of the conditioning requirements of tennis, squash or other racquet sports by breaking down the components of the movements involved. A series of STOTT PILATES Matwork exercises will incorporate small equipment including a mat, the Fitness Circle resistance ring, Flex-Band exerciser, and small weighted toning balls.

FUNCTIONAL FITNESS FOR RACQUET SPORTS, REFORMER This workshop is designed to give fitness instructors a better understanding of the conditioning requirements of tennis, squash or other racquet sports by breaking down the components of the movements involved. A series of modified STOTT PILATES Reformer exercises featuring will be presented.

ANATOMY REVIEW With the use of charts and skeletons, this workshop will review basic biomechanics and anatomical terms as well as skeletal and muscular anatomy. Simple and complex exercises will be examined noting levers, resistant forces from gravity or springs and muscular action.

POSTURAL ANALYSIS REVIEW This hands on workshop will outline the importance of postural analysis in programming STOTT PILATES workouts. Differences between static and dynamic posture will be considered and discussed. Postural theory will be reviewed and actual analysis practiced. )

CHALLENGING CLIENTS SAFELY / MATWORK is designed for pilates professionals who want to learn how to progress through essential, intermediate and advanced level workouts while maintaining the essence of each exercise. (Does not qualify for ACE CECs)

CHALLENGING CLIENTS SAFELY / EQUIPMENT This lecture/demo examines the essence of individual equipment-based exercises in order to clarify modifications for specific body types and abilities. Common injuries and conditions will be covered, as will tools for helping clients achieve their goals. (Does not qualify for ACE CECs)

EXAM PREPARATION: GENERAL OVERVIEW Specifically designed to help students prepare for their STOTT PILATES certification exam. Provides valuable information, including an overview of exam format, the most effective and useful study methods, what to focus on, and expect during the exam. Postural analysis, proper programming, and tips for cueing and correcting are also reviewed. It is recommended that this be taken in conjunction with the other Exam Prep workshops depending on which exam is being taken. (Does not qualify for ACE CECs)

EXAM PREPARATION: MATWORK Reviews specific Matwork exercises. Emphasis is placed on corrections and cues, and what to focus on during the exam. Use of props and modifications based on posture and programming are also addressed. It is recommended that this be taken in conjunction with the other Exam Prep workshops depending on which exam is being taken. (Does not qualify for ACE CECs)

EXAM PREPARATION: REFORMER Covers programming for Reformer and Matwork/Reformer, modifications and programming when using the Reformer for specific postural alignments, and a discussion and review of several Reformer exercises. It is recommended that this be taken in conjunction with the other Exam Prep workshops depending on which exam is being taken. (Does not qualify for ACE CECs)

EXAM PREPARATION: CADILLAC, CHAIR & BARRELS This workshop shows you how to program your workout for your exam safely and effectively. Matwork and Reformer programming is briefly reviewed with the majority of emphasis spent discussing programs that incorporate all pieces of equipment. Also reviewed are specific exercises and positioning on the Cadillac, Chair and Barrels. It is recommended that this be taken in conjunction with the other Exam Prep workshops depending on which exam is being taken. (Does not qualify for ACE CECs)
