education & certification

gain knowledge, skill and confidence
to develop effective programs

STOTT PILATES is recognized by the American Council on Exercise, Can-Fit-Pro, the College of Massage Therapy of Ontario as a continuing education provider.
REHABILITATION CERTIFICATION

Designed by executive director Moira Merrithew and physical therapist Joanna Speller, the STOTT PILATES Rehab Program shows you how to integrate STOTT PILATES appropriately into therapeutic conditioning. Each course progresses from core stabilization to peripheral joint mobility using a variety of modified matwork and equipment-based exercises.

GENERAL COURSE OBJECTIVES

How to apply STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles of core stability, peripheral mobility, breathing and alignment to relevant exercises

Integration of core stability and peripheral mobility training for injury prevention and rehabilitation

Exercise essence, muscular initiation and movement sequencing

Modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions

Effective communication, visual skills, verbal cuing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation.

LUMBAR & SHOULDER GIRDLE STABILIZATION ON MAT & REHAB REFORMER [RMR1]

introduces the biomechanical principles of STOTT PILATES and their application to modified matwork, small equipment and Rehab Reformer exercises. Emphasis is on pelvic and shoulder girdle stabilization and the role they play in preventing and rehabilitating lumbar and cervical injuries. During this course you learn how to perform exercises and identify proper execution and movement patterns. You also practice effective verbal cuing and imagery.

prerequisite: Applications are only accepted from licensed physical or occupational therapists, chiropractors or sports medicine doctors

course duration: 24 hours of instruction and supervised teaching conducted over four days

CECs: 2.4 ACE

PERIPHERAL JOINT REHABILITATION ON MAT & REHAB REFORMER [RMR2]

builds on the biomechanical and stabilization principles learned in RMR1, keeping the emphasis on core stability while mobilizing the joints. You learn exercises designed to prevent and rehabilitate common injuries to the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle. These exercises focus on balancing and strengthening muscles around the joints in order to restore and maintain healthy movement patterns.

prerequisite: RMR1

course duration: 24 hours of instruction and supervised teaching conducted over four days

CECs: 2.4 ACE

LUMBAR & SHOULDER GIRDLE STABILIZATION ON CADILLAC, CHAIR & BARRELS [RCCB1]

reviews the STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles introduced in course RMR1 and applies them to modified exercises performed on the Cadillac, Chair and assorted Barrels. You learn how to incorporate the different levels of resistance and support provided by this equipment to improve mobilization and stabilization of the lumbo-pelvic region and shoulder girdle. You also learn the role played by lumbar & shoulder girdle stabilization with respect to injury prevention and rehabilitation.

prerequisite: RMR1

course duration: 16 hours of instruction and supervised teaching conducted over four days

CECs: TBD

PERIPHERAL JOINT REHABILITATION ON CADILLAC, CHAIR & BARRELS [RCCB2]

teaches you how to apply STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles while progressing clients from non-weight-bearing exercises to weight-bearing exercises, beginning with exercises used to target the upper and lower extremities. These exercises enable isolation of the joints while maintaining core stability. You then learn how to progress patients and clients to weight-bearing exercises in order to improve functional alignment and core stability.

prerequisite: RMR1, RMR2, RCCB1

course duration: 16 hours of instruction and supervised teaching conducted over four days

CECs: TBD
