IT Specialist / Contract Position (3 – 6 Months)

The IT Specialist is responsible for providing technical assistance and training to staff including all supporting documentation.

Critical Duties:

  • Install, update and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.

  • Set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cable, operating systems, and appropriate software.

  • Technical Troubleshooting - Centralized Printing Environment.

  • Technical Troubleshooting - WAN/LAN network & wireless access.

Routine Duties:

  • Oversee the daily performance of computer systems.

  • Answer users inquiries regarding computer software and hardware operation to resolve problems.

  • Report major hardware or software problems or defective products.

  • Read technical manuals, confer with users, and conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems and to provide technical assistance and support.

  • Prepare evaluations of software or hardware, and recommend improvements or upgrades.

  • Coordinate and/or provide support to systems for all departments.

  • Technical Troubleshooting – Setup and maintain different Wireless phones and PDAs.

Special Duties:

  • Works on an on-call basis with responsibilities in resolving problems related to the hardware and software.

  • Develop training materials and procedures, and/or train users in the proper use of hardware and software.

  • In coordination with departmental staff provides the initial orientation and training to system users as required by any system implementation or change.

  • Providing technical support for outdated 'legacy' systems.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of Windows XP, Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Mac OS X.

  • Extensive knowledge of Filemaker and SQL Database technologies (preferred).

  • Knowledge of different versions of Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007.

  • Knowledge of MFP, Nortel Telephone System and CallPilot.

  • Knowledge of different wireless phones, PDAs and Sync operations with different email client softwares.

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to set and meet deadlines.

  • Proficient in planning, scheduling, estimating and project control.

  • Ability to work under time pressures while maintaining a customer service attitude.
