Ultimate Back Care, Pre-con
Statistically, more than half of the adult population will experience low back pain, either acute
or ongoing, at some point. Mat-based Pilates exercises can be a valuable tool in the prevention and care of these issues. In keeping with current research, this session focuses on progressions through three levels of exercise modifications that would be beneficial in a number of circumstances. Major focus is placed on creating awareness and endurance in the ‘inner unit’
or deep stabilizers of the lumbar spine and pelvic region. Although individual injuries will not
be covered, generalizations for specific exercise prescriptions will be reviewed as a foundation
for program development. Exercise choices for the prevention of back injuries and scope of practice concerns will also be discussed.
