Postural Analysis and Application to Pilates Exercises
This hands on workshop outlines the importance of postural analysis in programming
STOTT PILATES® workouts. Ideal posture as well as flat back, sway back and kyphosis-lordosis posture types will be reviewed. How muscle imbalances typically manifest in static posture will be covered and participants will practice conducting postural analysis. Finally, common Pilates exercise choices and modifications to accommodate these imbalances and work toward restoring balance in the musculature over time will be explored.

Stabilization Principles
Discover the foundation of the STOTT PILATES® exercise repertoire with this Stabilization Principles lecture/workshop. Explore the functional anatomy, reasoning and research behind
the biomechanical and body awareness issues that set the STOTT PILATES® method apart from other styles. These principles ensure that clients become more mindful and execute more control during exercises thus reaping the full benefits. Participants will cover specific anatomical reference points as well as cueing and visualization techniques to teach safely and effectively.

Cueing, Formula for Success
Cueing is crucial to the work of mind-body instructors. The exercise we teach requires the whole body to work as a unit. Our focus is on movement patterns as opposed to isolating individual muscles, and our aim is to achieve stability with mobility and control. This workshop will give us some background into learning styles and compare group exercise to private training to find the best cueing methods possible.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Review differences between teaching private and group classes.

Learn cueing skills specific to different individuals.

Discuss the importance of cueing to mind-body exercise like Pilates.

The Shoulder Girdle: Stability & Function
This lecture explores the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal healthy
functioning of the shoulder girdle, some of the interruptions that can occur to the ideal functioning of this area and exercise progressions to restore function, prepare for specific activities and enhance performance. First, the available movements and typical movement patterns of the shoulder girdle are broken down analyzing scapular movement, humeral movement and relevant muscular action. Then, common abnormal or dysfunctional
movement patterns are addressed. Finally, exercise progressions that can be used to
rebuild normal muscle action and movement patterning are outlined, as well as shoulder
girdle exercises that challenge and promote optimal performance.
